The projects of the outstanding 20th-century designer George Nelson go beyond the conventional use of objects. While maintaining functionality, he transforms designer lamps, furniture, and clocks into art objects, employing various visual effects such as color, material, and form to change the consumer's perception of ordinary things.
The standout feature of the Nelson Pear Crisscross Bubble is the crosshatched interweaving of steel rods forming an airy framework of pear-shaped form, with the wire ends secured on two rings. The elegance of the sculptural composition is accentuated by a white polymer composition sprayed evenly onto the metallic base. This concept was borrowed from American military use of similar spray for camouflaging warships.
According to the creator of the pendant lamp, lighting is an important interior detail, much like furniture, clocks, and textiles. Soft, even light fills the space, creating comfortable conditions for work and relaxation.
Fans of minimalism happily use the model for office, studio, and showroom decor. Compositions of various geometrically shaped pendants will adorn hotel lobbies, living rooms, and lounge areas.
